Meet Ashley Tamuno
I’ve been working in the fashion and creative industry for 8 years, but it sometimes feels as though I only started last week. I’ve picked up tips and tricks that have become second nature. I’m excited to share them as they can make the daunting task of piecing together an outfit so much easier.
I began working as a freelance model while studying Fashion Design. As a student, versatility and style were both important elements I wanted to incorporate into my everyday wardrobe. As I began working in fashion PR, I grew tired of single-use outfits, fads, and unfulfilling trends.
Having the amazing opportunity to write, style and model for clients, I made it my mission to make my wardrobe efficient and recognisable without compromising my expression.
All Saints Top Picks
All Saints is an incredible example of a brand with an instantly recognisable image, I love how they stay true to their beginnings. Their designs display a wonderful accumulation of subversive music culture and effortless design. I’m fond of their polished punk styles that seem reminiscent of 70s Saint Laurent, so I was eager and create a look that’s perfect for transitioning seasons.
After playing with some of my favourite features, lace, denim, silk and leather, I found a black satin shirt with an amazing drape, cuffed sleeves, and a sublime white blanket stitch detail on the edges. When pairing contrasting colours I always like to look for features that work with complimentary garments. This worked perfectly with some classic white denim jeans and a soft white v-neck I wrapped over my shoulders.
For cold mornings I’d love to show off the double layered hem on the sweater and let the oversized shirt collar do the talking. I kept on my favourite An/Other western boots from John Lewis, and rolled up the jeans to show off some white contrast stitching, perfect with the white detailing on the shirt.
Gant Top Picks
Gant has a soft spot in my wardrobe, being one of my first retail jobs, the brand helped me realize my love for visual merchandising and styling clients. They offer bespoke tailoring in store which is a great way to avoid overproduction and encourage customisation. Their pieces are definitely an investment, with hand finished workwear, well-made shirts and hand finished suiting. I was eager to try on some of their pieces.
I love any collection that is able to take traditional tailoring elements and appropriate them for easy to wear, contemporary looks. This outfit made the most of preppy nostalgia, known for their shirt making and varsity outfitting, I had to use a rugby shirt from their Rugger collection.
The well-made collar was a great feature underneath a thick striped deep V-neck. Along with bootcut cords and a matching caramel bag there was a subtle nod to the 70s.
There’s always a place for flared high waisted trousers in my wardrobe. Having the benefit of being extremely flattering, they also create movement and offer a tailored contribution to your outfits. I chose to add a blazer, mainly for its versatility. Gant’s sartorial staples are definitely an investment, this double-breasted navy blazer was well tailored, and had a crisp but casual finish. Adding a blazer to transitional looks can instantly elevate your style.
Mango Top Picks
Mango continuously maintains an up to date and relevant style profile. It’s easy to find pieces that work well for the zeitgeist, but also have the added benefit of being interchangeable. For anyone interested in keeping a concise and effortless wardrobe, these are undeniably advantageous elements.
I love taking inspiration from past and present runways, I found this the perfect opportunity to look at building something plush, clean but approachable. This is the kind of outfit I want to carry me from daytime obligations to light hearted drinks after work.
I paired a lightweight draped blouse, featuring a necktie, with some Levi’s bootcut 517’s. Everyone needs some staple denim jeans, and these are my go-to. I wore their limited edition leather biker and an oversized trench coat. This is an easy look to play with, and gave a subtle reference to Saint Laurent. I love contrasting slightly subversive elements in my wardrobe.
